Billy Jean is the place I go to remind myself that all I have is all I need. She’s a fully renovated, 2 bedroom unit located in the quiet streets of Tweed Heads. With river glimpses and within walking distance to Cooly, Snapper Rocks, D’Bah & Greenmount Beach, it is the perfect spot to explore & rest.
Family holidays with my parents and two siblings (and whoever else tagged along) were spent at the unit complex next door to Billy Jean. It was a cheap, basic, 2 bedroom unit in the heart of Tweed.
As we drove down from Ipswich in our 1987 Toyota Corolla, my Mum would place her hand on my Dad’s back for the entire drive. We would be so excited to pass the sites along the way. We’d spot the Strawberry Farm at Chambers Flat, then salute the stone memorial of the soldier at Pimpama & hope to see the Tower of Terror in action at Dreamworld from the Pacific Motorway.
As kids, our days were spent in the sun, catching waves on our boogie boards, eating calamari and chips and yabbying with my Dad.
The best part of these holidays was watching my Mum and Dad unwind. They smiled, they laughed, they played - just like us kids. All they had was all they needed. The ocean, the sun, their kids & each other.
After years of hard work and sacrifice, in their early 50’s they bought a unit in the complex next door to where we holiday’d. Their dream was to give their now adult children a place to stay and then eventually retire. And so we continued in our adult life to do all the same things in the ocean, under the sun, together.
Mum & Dad now share their slice of paradise with three of their kids and seven grand kids. We eat fresh prawns, take walks along the river with a cold beer in hand, let our kids hair go salty and relax.
When the opportunity came for my husband and I to buy the adjoining unit - we jumped at it. My dream was to give my parents a place for all of their loved ones to fit and stay so we could continue our holidays in the ocean, under the sun, together.
I want you to do the same with those you love.
